Misguided Advice Can Mess With Your Chances Of Fertility Success
I was just wandering through the internet as you do, gathering my thoughts together to write this week’s blog post, when I came upon an article titled ‘7 myths about infertility’. With my curiosity piqued, I clicked on the link.
The subtitle of the piece was “What's the truth, and what are just old wives' tales?”
In the main I found the article was very negative and not particularly useful for those struggling with infertility but the ‘myth’ that particularly made me cross was myth number 3: “Infertility is a psychological not physical problem.” Stating that “infertility is a disease or condition of the reproductive system and not a psychological disorder.”
This ISN’T correct and unfortunately, puts all of the focus on taking care of the body and not the mind, which is detrimental to potential fertility success (particularly as that is what the larger percentage of fertility specialists do).
Our mind actually plays a very important role in our fertility and in fact all of our body’s wellness. This is because our mind and body are intrinsically linked, which means that our thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and attitudes can positively or negatively affect our biological functioning.
In other words, our mind can affect how healthy our body is. How we treat our physical body (our diet, exercise routine and how we take care of our posture) can in turn impact on our mental state, either positively or negatively. So, taking care of both is equally important.
"the brain and peripheral nervous system, the endocrine and immune systems, and indeed, all the organs of our body and all the emotional responses we have, share a common chemical language and are constantly communicating with one another." Dr. James Gordon (founder of the Center for Mind-Body Medicine)
The mind/body connection is an incredibly complex system which cannot be broken down into an exact formula of 1 + 1 = 2. What I mean by that that is you cannot assume that you can put every person through exactly the same form of treatment and they will get exactly the same results. There are so many factors that come into play that have led to where we are right now, and each of those things will play out differently for every one of us in the form of our own unique physical and mental states.
This complex interrelationship between our minds and bodies is exactly why we hear such stories as women being told that they will never be able to get pregnant because their eggs are no longer viable and then a miracle seemingly occurs (in my best friends case – twice after we worked together).
Another example would be when men have fertility testing after going through a cycle of IVF with their partner and their sperm suddenly seems to have been affected when all was previously fine.
What goes on in our mind has the ability to make change in the body so even when there is a physical problem with the body the mind will most definitely have played its part. Also, as I’ve said before what’s happening in the body can have an impact on the mind and so it can be clearly seen what a vicious cycle this can create for the person struggling with fertility issues.
The good news is though that we don’t have to unravel this complex set up in order to put things right again. The mind and body will take care of that for themselves when we utilise the same processes by which they set things up in the first place.
This is where the Freedom Fertility Formula comes in and I am going to share with you why I believe it is one of the first steps anyone struggling with fertility issues will want to take (backed up by clients stating that they wished it had been one of the first things that they had undertaken).
Before I get on to that though, I am going to clearly state that the Freedom Fertility Formula doesn’t claim to be a miracle cure for infertility as some programmes do (yep they do and it makes me cross because no-one can claim that). We also don’t boast about our success rates.
Yes, we hear those wonderful words from our clients “we are pregnant”, however what woman struggling with fertility issues do you know who is only ever doing one thing to support her fertility (or her partner’s fertility)?
This is REALLY IMPORTANT for you to be aware of, because that’s just it. When someone announces that their client is pregnant, I guarantee so are the other x number of fertility specialists who are ether also supporting them at the time or have done so in the past. No-one can say for sure for any client what the exact combination of x,y and z led to their success at that particular time.
What this means unfortunately is that those struggling with infertility bounce from one potential solution to their problem to the next. Moving further and further along what I call the ‘downward cycle of despair’, when they don’t get pregnant (like their friend did, who told them that the last thing they tried must have been their miracle cure).
Here at the Freedom Fertility Formula, we acknowledge that there is no one-size fits all solution to the problem of fertility. Instead we use a combination of tools, strategies and exercises that help our clients find that right path for them.
We work both practically at a conscious level and emotionally at a subconscious level, to remove potential blocks and limiting beliefs that are preventing the body from being able to get pregnant.
We also help our clients tune in to their natural instincts in order to put together their own unique strategy of care, including what other fertility specialists they may want support from. We do this at session 1 and openly say to them to include the Freedom Fertility Formula in the exercise to make sure that this is the right thing to do for their fertility journey also.
We put the focus back on our clients feeling emotionally in control of their fertility journey and living more fulfilling lives once again. Because in my mind they deserve to have a life whilst living in the wait, and they deserve to have the best possible opportunity to find the right strategy for them, to stop having to wait.
So, when it comes to someone sharing what is and what is not a myth in relation to fertility, perhaps we all need to be mindful that there is an exception that proves every rule, and that for every myth there is undoubtedly someone who can prove it as a truth.
So, most importantly you will want to find out what is right for you.
